A Luau or Fieston is an island feast, where family and friends gather to celebrate special events. The original natives of the Caribbean- the Taínos, use to have gathering to celebrate a good bountiful cozecha, a child’s first birthday, or a religious occasion. The luau and the entire event was meant to unite attendees.
Many islands in the Polynesia and Micronesia have very large luau celebration that can last days.
In Hawaii there are many commercial luau that share with visitors this island attractions.
Today, the luau or fieston continues to play an important part in our community as a way to commemorate a birthday, raise funds for an organization, or just get together and celebrate life. At the Caribbean Luau, we carry on this ancient practice of celebrating life — Dominican style! Some traditional foods you’ll see at our luau include:
Puya Pig: A whole pig wrapped in banana, cooked in an taino BBQ.
Plantain mangú: A dish made by boiling and smashing the Plantain, and top with marinated Constanza onions.
Yuca al mojo: Steamed tapioca served with mojo and onions.
Plantain And Batata chips: An island favorite.
